Frequently Asked Questions

How is Pol-Air's B310 Powered?
It plugs into a cigarette lighter or directly onto a car or motorcycle battery. Pol-Air comes with an adaptor plug equipped with an on/off LED rocker switch and a 15-amp replaceable fuse in its tip. Just plug the adapter into your cigarette lighter and turn it on when you need cool, dry air.

Does the Pol-Air B310 Throw Off Heat While Running?
No. The proprietary turbine and the motor do not give off any heat whether you run the unit for one minute or three weeks straight. The B310 does not add any heat to your environment.

How Much Does the B310 Weigh Empty?
The basic unit weighs only 10.1 lbs empty. If you need the drain basin, add 1.5 pounds. For each hose up to four hoses add 3.63 ounces. Add 4.8 ounces for each seat slide.

How Much Ice Does the B310 Hold? How Long Will it Last?
The unit will hold 25 lbs of rough crushed ice and up to 35 lbs of fine/peanut crushed ice. Rough crush ice should last 75 to 90 minutes in hot cabins over 105ºF and even longer in less heated conditions. Thirty five pounds of fine/peanut crushed ice will last considerably longer. That should give you plenty of time for your checklist, run-up, taxi, takeoff, and climb to altitude. When you reach altitude, switch the unit off and use your vents. When you descend into warm air again, switch it back on for the remainder of your descent and landing to give you all the cooling you need to your final destination.

The B310 uses an Igloo MaxColdTM five day, five gallon cooler. As we have altered this chest with an air intake, ice should last around two days in this chest before use. This still gives you the ability to put your ice in the day before (remember ice will melt and a drain or drain basin will be needed) and still have enough ice for the next day’s flight.

How Do I Get The Water Out of the Basin?
The proprietary drain basin comes with a tube and bulb. In addition to using this tube and bulb to squeeze a cold drink of water, you can squeeze the bulb and lay it lower than the basin to siphon the water out. Or just turn the basin over and let it drain on its own.

If Pol-Air is Strapped in, Do I Have to Remove the Unit to Fill it With Ice?
No. You can leave the unit permanently strapped in. Just remove the cover and add ice. Though the cover fits snugly and there is additional suction when the turbine is running that helps hold the cover on, we recommend strapping the cover down.

Should I Strap the Cover Down Also?
Yes. Though the cooler cover, complete motor assembly and cigarette lighter adapter assembly weight only 4.5 pounds and fit snugly onto the very high quality cooler; as a standard safety measure we recommend putting a strap from the secure handles over the cover assembly.

Can I Use Dry Ice or Liquified Gases in the B310?
No. Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide), while much colder than ice, will sublimate to CO2 gas and displace air from the cockpit and cabin. This can lead to hypoxia (even anoxia), dizziness, discoordination, obtundation, coma, and death. This is true of any other liquefied gas except liquid air and liquid oxygen. Pure liquid oxygen (LOX) can cause oxygen toxicity and is an extreme fire hazard. While liquid air is the least harmful of all these, its extreme cold will probably cause the Pol-Air case to harden and shatter and the turbine fan to freeze. None of these choices are safe, nor are any approved for use in Pol-Air. The use of any of these constitutes an extreme hazard to pilot and passengers. Remember, crushed ice works great!!

Can I Cover the Air Intake and Motor with a Tent/Sleeping Bag/Cover of any Kind While it is Operating?
No. As with any electric device, your air intake, outflow and motor area must be left clear.

Can I Use the Pol-Air B310 in the Rain?
Yes. The B310’s motor is sealed separately from the turbine and isolated from direct outside air. Though you cannot submerge the motor without shorting the unit, operating the unit under rainy conditions should not affect its performance. It will still lower the humidity of the output air. (Note: Do not plug the B310 into AC power.)

Can I plug the B310 into A/C-Power?
No. The B310 is powered by a DC-motor. Connecting this motor to AC power will destroy it and void your warranty.

Does Pol-Air's B310 Proprietary Turbine and Its Motor Throw Off Heat in the Enviroment Around it?
No. The turbine and motor do not throw off any heat whether running for one hour or three weeks straight!

Will There be Other Sizes?
Yes. Pol-Air plans a 3.5 gallon, a 12 gallon, and our super large 37.5 gallon unit.

What is Pol-Air's Guarantee?
30-day full money-back guarantee. Up to one year for parts repair and labor.
